About

I am an architect who began taking art classes and keeping sketchbooks in college and later had studio space in Los Angeles. Throughout my career I have worked in a variety of media, from drafting in pencil, to computer drafting, ink and pencil sketches, and paintings made with acrylics and markers. In recent years I have returned to art with a renewed focus, taking classes and maintaining a daily sketching practice.

My work

The works presented here are drawn from memory and are often painted over earlier pieces. Memory is subjective, shaped by personal myths and the stories we tell ourselves. We revisit experiences and reconstruct them in ways that give them meaning. In that sense, these paintings embrace their imperfections, because memory itself is far from perfect.

Much of this work revolves around summer – a brief and precious season in Minnesota – when I pull in images, colors, and sensations that sustain me through the rest of the year.
